What makes a coaching centre actually good
Batch size is the single most important factor. A teacher with 40 students cannot give individual attention. Ask any centre: how many students are in each batch? At APJ Academy, we cap every batch at 10β15 students. This means your child's teacher knows their name, knows their weak subjects, and can adjust the pace for them. Don't be swayed by a large building or impressive marketing. Ask about the batch size.
What to ask before enrolling
Ask: How do you communicate progress to parents? Ask: What happens when a student falls behind? Ask: Can I meet the teachers before enrolling? Ask: How many students from last year's batch scored A+ in all subjects? A good coaching centre will answer all of these directly and specifically. If they give vague answers, walk away.
How to support your child at home during board year
The most effective thing a parent can do is remove pressure, not add it. SSLC year is stressful enough. Make sure your child has a quiet study space, regular meals, and 7β8 hours of sleep. Sleep is not optional β sleep-deprived students retain less than half of what they study. Avoid comparing your child to siblings or neighbours. Comparisons increase anxiety and reduce performance.
When should coaching start
Ideally, SSLC coaching should begin at the start of Class 10, in June. Students who begin in September or October after the school exams lose 3β4 months of foundational preparation. If your child is already in Class 9, the best time to start coaching is right now β the Class 9 syllabus is the foundation for Class 10, and students who understand it deeply need far less cramming during board year.
Why Valanchery parents choose APJ Academy
Since 1966, APJ Academy has produced consistent full A+ results from Valanchery and across Malappuram. Our students come from all backgrounds and academic starting points. What we offer isn't just teaching β it's a structured, supportive system that guides each student from where they are to where they need to be. We communicate with parents regularly, because we believe board exam preparation is a team effort between the student, the teacher, and the family.
