What Open School actually means
Open School (Kerala State Open School / NIOS) allows students to complete Plus One and Plus Two at their own pace, without attending a regular school daily. You appear for the same board exams, get the same certificate, and can pursue higher education — degree, diploma, or professional courses — with an Open School certificate. The key difference is that there are no mandatory attendance requirements.
Who should choose Open School
Open School is the right choice for students who missed a year due to health, family, or other personal reasons. It works well for students who are working part-time or running a family business. It's ideal for students who have already attempted board exams and want to improve specific subjects. It also suits students who find the daily school schedule too rigid and learn better at their own pace.
Who should choose regular school
If a student has no specific reason to avoid daily school, regular schooling is generally better for building discipline, friendships, and structured habits. The daily classroom environment also provides peer competition that naturally pushes students to study. For students with no prior academic gaps, regular school combined with coaching at APJ Academy is the recommended path.
The myth that Open School degrees are 'lesser'
This is completely false. NIOS and Kerala State Open School certificates are fully recognised by Kerala University, Calicut University, and all central universities. Students with Open School certificates have enrolled in BBA, BCom, BA, and even government jobs. The quality of your score matters far more than which board you appeared from.
How APJ Academy supports Open School students
At APJ Academy, we have dedicated batches for Open School Plus One and Plus Two in Commerce and Humanities. We provide structured study plans, subject-specific materials, and personal guidance through the registration and exam process. Many of our Open School students score higher than students in regular school batches — because they have more focused preparation time and one-to-one attention.
